IT was a case of right place right time for entrepreneur Dick Smith, who came to the aid of a bushwalker with a broken leg in the Blue Mountains at the weekend.
Smith, who was bushwalking alone in the Megalong Valley on Saturday, spotted a PolAir helicopter flying overhead and made radio contact, only to learn there was a bushwalker in strife nearby.
“When I saw the police helicopter circling, I spoke to them on the radio and they asked me to bring a first aid kit down,” Smith told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.
“I walked down the hill and got to the accident site and stayed with the woman until they were able to winch her out.
Smith, who is a keen aviator and founder of the Dick Smith brands and Australian Geographic, started bushwalking as a boy scout at 15-years-old.
“(Bushwalking) is my favourite thing to do and costs no money and I hardly ever see anyone out there, so yes, it was a case of right place, right time and I was able to help her,” he said.
It is understood the bushwalker suffered a broken leg in a fall but is expected to make a full recovery.
