A MAN is dead and two people were rescued after a boat capsized on the NSW mid-north coast this afternoon.

Emergency services responded to Camden Haven Beach, north of Forster, about 1.45pm after receiving reports of a boat overturning while it returned from sea.

Three people were in the boat when it capsized and all went into the water.

Two people were rescued by locals lifeguards and brought to the beach, where they were treated by paramedics and, on its arrival, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter’s medical staff.

A desperate search was initiated to find the third person and the body of the 59-year-old man was found in the river a short time later.

Local police and Marine Area Command are investigating the incident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
