The findings of a 2018 corruption probe that led to Daryl Maguire’s resignation from parliament are set to be made public today.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption will hand down its findings from Operation Dasha to NSW Parliament’s Speaker and upper house president, who are likely to publicly release the report.
The probe was launched to investigate the conduct of councillors on the former Canterbury Council. Mr Maguire was drawn into Operation Dasha when he featured in a taped phone conversation seeking payment over a property deal with a Chinese developer.
The then Wagga Wagga MP quit the Parliamentary Liberal Party almost immediately after his sensational appearance before the ICAC, then resigned from parliament a week later.
Operation Dasha involved allegations concerning former Canterbury City councillors Michael Hawatt and Pierre Azzi, the former general manager, Jim Montague, and the former Director City Planning, Spiro Stavis.
The probe came ahead of a separate inquiry into Mr Maguire himself, in which Premier Gladys Berejiklian - Mr Maguire’s former lover - last year became embroiled.
The corruption watchdog’s investigations as part of Operation Keppel are ongoing.
