“There is quite a deep low-pressure system at the moment and it is currently centred south of Adelaide,” she said.
“It’s drawing air up from the south which means it is coming across the Southern Ocean which essentially means it’s coming from down near the Antarctic.
“The first one will be coming through today where we will see really strong winds and for that we do have a severe weather warning that has been issued.”
Ms Kirkup also predicts a chance of snow in the Goulburn region on Saturday.
Saturday will reach a maximum temperature of 16 degrees in the city and 15 degrees in the west.
A minimum temperature of 6 in the city and 3 in the west with a maximum of 17 is forecast for Sunday.
