A man is fighting for life after he was hit by a car in Sydney’s inner west on Sunday morning.

A cyclist was taken to hospital in a critical condition after he was hit by a car in Sydney’s inner west.

About 10.45am the man, 58, suffered head, body and leg injuries after he was hit by a car on Frederick Street in Ashfield, near the cross of Norton St.

More than 10 emergency crews responded and administered an IV drip before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

The driver of the car, aged 24, was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A witness said a cyclist had been hit. At one stage a car with caravan was stationary, diagonally across two lanes near the impact site.

The victim was loaded into ambulance and taken to hospital about 11.30am.

Specialist officers from Crash Investigation Unit remain on scene and inquiries continue.

Milton Street between Liverpool Rd and Arthur Street remain closed, with a detour in place

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
