A teacher at an elite Sydney private school has been subjected to a bizarre extortion plot after she received an email ordering her to send sexual images.

The Cranbrook teacher was sent an email last week from a person claiming to be a student in which they threatened to circulate false allegations about her unless she sent them explicit images.

The Daily Telegraph understands it came from an Gmail address called “fluffybunny” and the person responsible had been identified by the school on Monday.

The school said police had been informed about the incident.

“Last week a member of staff received an email from a non-Cranbrook email account, unknown to them, from someone purporting to be a student in which the sender threatened to make false allegations against the recipient should images of a sexual nature not be provided to the sender within a certain time frame,” the school said in a statement provided to The Daily Telegraph.

“The email in question does not make any specific allegation against the staff member.”

The teacher reported the email to school management and IT experts at the school investigated the issue internally to try and trace the source of the email.

When this was unsuccessful they notified police.

“Cranbrook has a zero tolerance stance to abuse of any kind be it against staff or students. Based on its contents, at this stage, the email appears to be a disturbing and distasteful prank.” the spokeswoman said.

“However, formal allegations of abuse of any kind are treated seriously and will be thoroughly investigated.”

A school spokeswoman said the person responsible for the email had been identified.

“Cranbrook has identified the sender of the email and appropriate action will be taken regarding this matter,” the school spokeswoman said.
