Court hears divorce on the cards for celebrity accountant Anthony Bell and his TV presenter wife Kelly Landry over AVO charges

FORMER TV presenter Kelly Landry cried in court as the lawyer for her estranged husband, celebrity accountant Anthony Bell, accused her of ‘celebrity deprivation’ and said he never wants to see her again.

FORMER TV presenter Kelly Landry cried in court as the lawyer for her estranged husband, celebrity accountant Anthony Bell, said he wanted a divorce and never to see her again.

In a stunning broadside, celebrity lawyer Chris Murphy lashed out on his client’s behalf in response to an apprehended violence order taken out by police on behalf of Ms Landry.

“He is not going back to that house, he is divorcing his wife and he will continue to support her as the mother of his children,” Mr Murphy said.

Bell has agreed to an interim AVO without admitting fault.

“Contact he has with his children he is happy to have with a nanny but not with the wife — we don’t want to see the wife,” he said.

Mr Murphy said Bell would agree to the AVO only because he did not want Ms Landry to give evidence in open court.

“My client’s fear is the necessity of cross-examination of the children’s mother will ensure a public record. Already there has been an extraordinary press speculation ... with what is happening.”

Mr Murphy said the AVO related to an alleged incident at a dinner on December 28, just after he won the Sydney to Hobart yacht race on supermaxi Perpetual Loyal in record time.

“He had been in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race ... she had been up since the early morning he had been up all day,” Mr Murphy said.

“What happened was after the dinner on December 28 that we say was peaceful, the defendant had been down in Hobart, I think his wife has complained that (he) barely acknowledged her.”

Mr Murphy also took aim at one of the conditions of the AVO, which states Bell must not go near his wife if he has consumed drugs or alcohol.

“He has never used illegal drugs in his life ... He doesn’t have the alcohol problem in his household.”

Mr Murphy said his client “doesn’t want to see her again”.

“This is a fallacious case brought to media attention perhaps by someone suffering from celebrity deprivation,” Mr Murphy said.

The police prosecutor told the court they had been attempting to serve the interim AVO on Bell but could not contact him.

Mr Murphy said his client was interstate.

Magistrate Michael Barko appeared frustrated with Mr Murphy telling him repeatedly that he was only dealing with AVO the defendants were agreeing to, not disputed cases.

He later told Mr Murphy that if he wanted to go into the details of the case with the media he should do so outside the court.

The case will return to court on February 17.
