Police TASER dog after woman attacked

Two tradies desperately tried to stop a dog mauling a woman as she sustained horrific injuries to her chest and arms in a savaging that lasted more than 15 minutes.

The woman, aged in her 30s and believed to be a cleaner arriving to work at a Condell Park home, was set upon by a male American Staffordshire Terrier inside a home at Condell Park, shortly before 1pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene of the Warburton St attack before rushing her to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Dramatic vision from the scene shows a NSW Police officer using a Taser to settle the dog, which could be seen acting aggressively.

Witnesses said a group of tradesman working on a house next door ran to the screaming woman’s aid.

Neighbour Peter Burzynski heard the woman’s screams and the commotion from his house.

“I could hear the commotion and something like a shovel being hit on the concrete, and someone yelling out ‘Come here, come here!’,” he said.

“Two tradesmen actually pulled up and were helping, but they just couldn’t stop the dog attacking the woman.”

One of the men Mr Burzynski saw helping the victim told The Daily Telegraph he jumped in to help on his way home from the gym.

“I’d seen some guy holding a shovel [and] screaming. I asked someone what was going on and he told me some dog was attacking a lady,” the man, known only as Mohamad said.

“I started helping him, he was hitting it with a shovel and I started throwing rocks at it, I threw a crowbar at it, throwing little concrete slabs at it, threw a garbage bin at it and the dog wouldn’t move. He kept sitting on the floor and (mauling the woman),” he said.

“We were here for about fifteen minutes til the [cops] rocked up. Ten to fifteen minutes easy and then the ambulance rocked up. That whole time (the dog was mauling her) and who knows how long before that.

“We told them to shoot it [the dog] because it was still (attacking her). They just pulled out their taser a couple of minutes later and tased it one time. That’s when he ran at all of us and they shot him again a couple of times.

“That dog shouldn’t be out in the public, especially a dog like that. We’ve all got kids, it could’ve been any of our kids, could’ve been our mums, our wives, anybody.”

In footage from the incident one man can be heard yelling “where’s the ambulance”, while another tradie watches on and a police officer tries to calm the dog which is seen pacing on the veranda.

The dog is heard yelping moments after a Taser is fired.

It is believed the dog lived at the house where the attack happened and was only recently adopted by its residents.
A Canterbury-Bankstown Council spokesman confirmed the dog had been surrendered immediately following the incident, before an assessment from staff confirmed it “could not be rehabilitated”.

The dog was euthanised on Tuesday evening.
