Community mourns for student killed outside Hurstville school
Flowers, messages and drawings have been left by bereft students and locals outside Hurstville Public School in tribute to a schoolboy tragically killed yesterday during the morning drop-off.

Tributes are flowing outside a school in Sydney’s south where a young boy was killed while crossing the road on Friday during the busy morning drop-off.
Members of the school community, business owners and residents have placed flowers, letters and soft toys on the fence outside Hurstville Public School where the 12-year-old boy was fatally hit.
An education department spokesman said the school community was “deeply saddened” by the death of the boy, who previously studied at Hurstville Public School.
“The student was a much loved member of each school community,” the spokesman said.
He said there would be ongoing and extensive support available for students and staff.
“The school community’s thoughts and heartfelt sympathy are with the student’s family and friends at this most distressing time.”
Emergency services were called to Forest Road in Hurstville on Friday morning after the Sydney Technical High School student was struck during the busy morning drop off.
He was trapped under a Toyota Corolla for a short time before witnesses helped free him and began performing CPR.
A number of kids were being dropped off by their parents at the time and several bystanders ran out to help. He was treated by paramedics and taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, NSW Police said.
The 36-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for mandatory testing and is now facing seven charges including manslaughter, dangerous driving occasioning death and driving disqualified.
Rabih Abdulrahman, 36, did not apply for bail in Parramatta Bail Court during a five-minute hearing today.
