What’s got the Coffs Coast talking this week

There’s a mixed bag of big ups and big downs as our weekly look at Coffs Coast talking points gets even bigger.

The number of discarded masks has raised the ire of one resident, though the gutter mask can often be a blessing in disguise for someone who forgot to bring one to the shops. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Naomi Jellicoe

This week our barometer of community consciousness has expanded to include 100 per cent more thumbs.

Deciding to include not one, but two weeks of Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down was easy because we know how important it is – it’s data-collection up there with the census. We definitely didn’t double up because we forgot to do it recently.

So without further ado, here is what got the Coffs Coast talking this week (and the week before).

👎 Public holiday for 2500 race goers, biggest thumbs down. Peter Gearge Farquhar

👎 Thumbs down to (insert large supermarket chain here) for not being not all concerned that barely anyone uses the QR code to check in. When questioned, the manager told me that they do not have the resources to supervise this. A multinational corporation? Sandra Duncan

👎 Sandra Duncan, it’s not just (insert large supermarket chain here). (Insert equally large supermarket chain here) doesn’t have a door greeter to check. Most places don’t. Denise Parsons Grimberg

👎 Thumbs down to those in the community who still do not understand the importance of signing into retail stores when they enter. You are not children, you are grown adults who are old enough to take responsibility of yourselves. We are not the Police, nor do we get paid to be law enforcement. We also don’t get any mental support to deal with your rudeness and blatant disregard for other people’s safety.

To those who do sign in, you are literally amazing. A massive thumbs up to you. You give me good reason to continue being abused by those who do so when I ask them to sign in. You’re the people who are going to get us through this situation as best we can. I’m so thankful to you for not only keeping yourself safe, but my team also. We will get through this together from the bottom of my heart, Thankyou. Mel Winkler

👎 Thumbs down to council elections being prolonged until December. Monique Sheil

👎 Thumbs down to Coffs council rate rises. Gavin Mangion

👎 Thumbs down to airheads who don’t take Covid-19 seriously. Kate M Collins

👎 Thumbs down to Gurmesh Singh for giving $500,000 to horse racing in Coffs Harbour. Rowena Dexter

The Coffs Harbour Gold Cup 2021 split opinion.
The Coffs Harbour Gold Cup 2021 split opinion.

👎 Thumbs down to Coffs coast The Coffs Coast Advocate for making us pay to read information regarding the scare with COVID-19 in Coffs region. Luke Johnson

👎 Thumbs down for having to pay to see what‘s going on in our local town. Nathan Trivett

👎 Thumbs down to local government elections being postponed by Shelley Hancock for the second time. This time only by 3 months. Extremely poor decision and lack of forward planning by the Minister. Has she not heard of postal voting and internet voting for heavens sake. Megan Karl

👎 Thumbs down to the trucks that go through red lights every single day at the hospital traffic lights. Roberta Andrews

👎 Thumbs down to thoughtless fishers who leave their lines and hooks for sea birds to get tangled and caught in, causing them painful injuries and death. Brigit Mackenzie

👎 Thumbs down to the imbeciles who thought protesting, without masks, in the streets was a good way to get everyone out of lock down. Robyn Shone

👎 Thumbs down to the Coffs cat killer. Vanessa Calleja

👎 Thumbs Down to the vehicles speeding down the lane behind Northside shops. Accident waiting to happen. Michelle Young

👎 Thumbs down to people using their mobile phones while driving. Jacob Joseph

👎 Thumbs down to seeing political promotions in local shops. A least I know where not to spend my money. Karen Lagalla

👎 Thumbs down to people who throw disposable masks on the ground, take it home after using it, and put it in the bin. Nicole Brown
