FAMILY and friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to a young man after he tragically died on Sunday afternoon.

The 23-year-old was run over by a ute late on Saturday night on Childers Rd at Elliott, it was possible he may have been walking or lying on the road at the time.

The driver of the vehicle contacted emergency services and the man was treated for injuries at the scene before being transported to Bundaberg Hospital.

Police are calling for witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage between 11pm and midnight in the area to come forward.

Although authorities had not released his name yesterday, friends and family paid tribute on social media.

One tribute to the young man said "today we said goodbye to one of the most caring, loving and fun men I had the honour to know."

Another friend said he had fond memories of the victim.

"Rest easy my brother, send my love to your family, forever in our hearts and memories," he said.

It is believed the man was married last year and has friends and family in Bundaberg.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances around the incident and is appealing for people who may have been driving along Childers Rd and saw something between 11pm and midnight to contact them.

"In particular, officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen someone walking or lying on the road around this time to contact them," a spokesperson said.

"Additionally, another motorist travelling on Childers Rd is believed to have flashed their headlights, possibly as a warning to the driver involved in the incident.

"Police would like to speak to the occupants of this car as they may be able to assist with investigations.

"Officers were called to the intersection of Childers Rd and Kingswood Way shortly before midnight following reports a 23-year-old Hidden Valley man had been run over."

The driver of the vehicle contacted emergency services and the man was treated for injuries at the scene before being transported to Bundaberg Hospital, where he died.
