Surfer dies at Mullaway beach, north of Coffs Harbour

Fellow surfers commenced CPR on the man but he could not be revived.

A man has died while surfing at a Coffs Coast beach on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to a popular surf beach at Mullaway just before 9am following reports a man had drowned.

Mullaway is about 30 minutes north of Coffs Harbour on the mid north coast of NSW.

Fellow surfers commenced CPR until paramedics arrived but the man could not be revived.

Initial reports suggest the man had only just begun surfing when he appeared to collapse off his board and friends pulled him out of the water.

The man is believed to be aged in his 70s.
