The Year 12 St John Paul College (JPC) students were put through many challenges, battling Covid, fires and floods to get to where they are.

The JPC cohort of 2022 had to adapt to the challenges of online learning and several cancelled events – but came out in flying colours to celebrate their Year 12 formal.

Year 12 co-ordinator Mark Sultana said he’ll greatly miss the students who “were one of the best groups we’ve had”.

Having been their co-ordinator and “leader of student wellbeing” since Year 9, he got to know many of them well.

“It’s a small group but we’ve developed a close bond to each and every one of them,” Mr Sultana said.

Having raised over $28,000 for the community through Cancer Trust and Bridging the Gap, the JPC students can hold their heads high.

“They’re a really close-knit group which makes my job easier,” he said.

His own son – who was DJ at the event – missed out on his own formal last year as the celebration was scuppered by Covid.

“Year 12 did a wonderful job for the community and they’re a passionate group. They’ve been dedicated to being seniors and never took being a senior for granted,” Mr Sultana said.

As a collective, he said, the students had demonstrated solid leadership qualities.

“We’re so excited for them, they’ve done a really wonderful job,” he said.

“They’re like my own kids – I’m going to miss this group.”
