COFFS Harbour City Council has opened nominations for the 2012 Australia Day Sportsperson of the Year Awards.

An entry form must be completed, giving background information and supporting documentation on each nominee, and returned to council by close of business on Friday, December 2.

Individuals or organisations can be entered and nominations should be supported by newspaper clippings, photos, testimonials or other evidence.

Achievement and contribution to sport will both be considered by the judges.

The period assessed must be between November 2010 and November 2011.

Each nominee should be a local resident contributing voluntarily to sport within the city.

However, the Australia Day committee has the discretion to consider a nominee who resides outside the city if the contribution to sport and association with the city is sufficiently outstanding to warrant consideration. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Coffs harbour City Council website.

Meanwhile, tickets go on sale in December for the visit by English Super League club Warrington in February.

The Wolves will play at BCU International Stadium against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The match is part of the Rabbitohs' build-up for the 2012 NRL Premiership and will come after a pre-season training camp for the club at Camp Rabbitoh in the Pacific Bay Novotel resort.

Warrington's season ended at the weekend, when its dreams of reaching a first grand final at Old Trafford on Saturday were dashed by a last-minute loss to Leeds.

One minute and 58 seconds from the end, with scores level, a Leeds penalty goal ended the Wolves' fairytale year.

Leeds had conceded 82 points to the Wolves in league games this season and were rank outsiders.

The Wolves will now rest up until arriving on the Coffs Coast.
