Coffs Athletics Club to start again

A MEETING to be held tomorrow night will bring about the reformation of the Coffs Harbour Athletics Club.

A MEETING to be held tomorrow night will bring about the reformation of the Coffs Harbour Athletics Club.

The club went into recession about three years ago when a committee couldn't be formed and membership numbers plummeted.

But there is renewed interest in the sport with former club president Glenn Thacker leading the charge to re-establish the club.

“Indications are good that we can get rolling again for a track and field season over the summer months,” Thacker said.

He said several people had indicated a desire to hold a committee position, while there had been many inquiries from athletes.

The Coffs Harbour club still has all its own equipment, as well as access to qualified coaches in all disciplines.

Thacker said the plan was for the club to link with the Sawtell Little Athletics Centre for its weekly competitions.

“Sawtell Little As have agreed to let us join in on Thursdays at Toormina Oval for their competitions days,” he said.

“It's likely that the senior club would start at a later time than the Little As, but this will be determined at Thursday's meeting.”

An interim committee is expected to be put in place at the meeting which will be held at Interact Injury Management offices in West High Street (next to the radiology) at 6.00pm.

Glenn has urged anyone interested in athletics to be at the meeting so that dates can be set for registration days and the start of weekly competitions.

Anyone interested in athletics who would like to support the new club should phone Glenn Thacker, 6651 5560.
