HAVING endured almost four years to the day since the first day of major construction started on the Sapphire to Woolgoolga upgrade of the Pacific Hwy , the 25 km section is set to be officially opened.

At 10.15am on Wednesday, Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker and Coffs Harbour member Andrew Fraser will be joined by NSW Minister for Roads Duncan Gay to remove the final traffic barricade and declare the section of road open as a dual carriageway.

Work on the $850m upgrade commenced in August 2010.

The Woolgoolga Bypass section of the upgrade opened in December.

When all finishing touches on the project have been completed, the speed limit on the upgraded section of the road is expected to be 110kmh.

This will mean it will take motorists less than 14 minutes to travel from Sapphire to the Arrawarra interchange.
