Russell Crowe backs Coffs Harbour Easter hat parade for dogs
The Cat in the Hat delighted young and old, but it’s dogs in lids and fascinators at Coffs Harbour which has caught the eye of its world famous resident Russell Crowe. Here’s why.

In true Gladiator-style, Hollywood superstar and Coffs Harbour resident Russell Crowe has given the thumbs up to an Easter hat parade for dogs in the city on Sunday.
The idea will be a first for Coffs and aims to raise awareness about the Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) organisation, which rehomes dogs no longer suitable for racing.
The parade will be held at the Harbourside Markets, and it caught the imagination of the city’s most famous resident, who shared the idea on his Twitter account.
Emily Brisciani, GAP’s local regional co-ordinator, found a clever way to get the film star on board - gifting Crowe a hat for his dog.
“As Russell Crowe is a true blue Aussie actor with a blue heeler, I thought a mini Akubra is the perfect hat and that this gift may inspire Russell and QueBlue (his dog) to enter GAP’s first-ever Easter Hat Dog Show,” Ms Brisciani said.
“This special delivery included a lovely letter inviting him to post about GAPNSW and to join us this coming Sunday.”
The canine Easter hat parade will get underway at 11.30am at the Centre Arena, and is open to all breeds, with some 30 already registered.
Ms Brisciano has a greyhound, Henry, and he’ll have a watching brief.
“He won’t be in the parade, but he will be assisting in judging and just generally looking handsome, sporting a bow tie in his usual market attire,” she said.
And what exactly will the judges be looking for?
“Overall, we will be considering creativity, Easter spirit, and general awesomeness,” Ms Brisciani said.
And she holds hope that Crowe and QueBlue might swing by on Sunday to the markets.
“Well, a greyhound can dream. We would love to have Russell and QueBlue take part,” Ms Brisciani said.
