A late night fishing trip at Coffs Harbour became a terrifying ordeal for two men as they were set upon outside the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park.

The men had arrived separately to try their luck near the mouth of Coffs Creek about 10pm on Sunday, December 22.

Their cars – a silver Holden Commodore and a white BMW sedan – were parked outside the tourist attraction formerly known as Dolphin Marine Magic in Orlando St when they were confronted by two unknown men.

The assailants, allegedly armed with an unknown weapon, demanded money.

A 40-year-old Grafton man was stabbed in the shoulder by a sharp object and personal items were stolen from his car.

A 38-year-old man was not injured; however, his mobile phone was stolen.

Coffs/Clarence Police District crime manager Mark Rogers said the older man had driven home but realising he needed medical attention, went to Grafton Base Hospital.

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information as part of an ongoing investigation into the assault and robberies.

Investigators want to speak with two men who were seen in the area at the time of the incident.

They have been described as being of Aboriginal appearance and were wearing hooded jumpers.

Police believe the men may be from the Kempsey area, and urge anyone with information about their identity to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
