Police investigating after man’s body found in burnt out car near Nambucca Heads on Mid North Coast

Volunteer firefighters have made the grisly discovery of a man’s body inside a car which had been razed by fire in remote country west of Nambucca Heads.
Emergency services were called to Simpsons Ridge Rd, South Arm, about 2pm on Monday, after smoke was seen rising from bushland.
A car was found on fire at the scene, with the nearby scrub also alight.
NSW Rural Fire Service firefighters extinguished the car fire and found the body inside the charred vehicle.
Mid North Coast Police District officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A post-mortem examination will be undertaken in coming days to confirm the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.
Police have been speaking with the family of an 86-year-old man last seen driving the car at Macksville about 11am.
Meanwhile, a bushfire has developed in the area.
The Simpsons Ridge Rd fire was listed at advice level at the last scheduled update at 4pm.
The fire is 13 hectares in size and is seated in steep largely inaccessible country.
The fire is listed as being controlled by local RFS units including trucks from the South Arm brigade.
