Two men charged after police chase near Bonville, Coffs Harbour

Two men were charged following the chase which ended south of Coffs Harbour with a car totally engulfed in flames. Watch videos from the scene.

Fighting the flames

Two men are assisting police after a pursuit, which started in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday night, ended with a car totally engulfed in flames south of Macksville.

Police first noticed the black Mazda2, believed to be stolen, after it drove past highway patrol at Bonville, allegedly reaching speeds up to 130kph in a 110 zone.

A police pursuit was then initiated.

Car on fire after pursuit at Coffs Harbour

About 15km south of Macksville the car allegedly left the highway and was later found abandoned and fully alight just outside the Eungai Rail Rural Fire Service (RFS) station.

With the help of the dog squad two men from Coffs Harbour were later arrested and taken into custody.

One man was charged in relation to an outstanding arrest warrant and the other with breach of bail.

They were not charged in relation to the pursuit.

Lucky escape

It was a lucky escape for a woman who rolled her car on South Island Loop Road, Upper Orara, around 8am on Thursday (January 27).

The Ford Escape she was driving lost control and rolled onto its side, partially blocking the road.

Police and paramedics attended but the SES was called off after it was determined nobody was trapped in the vehicle.

The woman was shaken but not badly injured.
