A young surfer has been fatally stabbed in the neck and chest seemingly moments after leaving the water at a Coffs Coast beach, according to police.
NSW Police has launched a State Crime Command homicide investigation following the death of a man in his 20s on Thursday.
Emergency services were called to Park Beach Reserve on Ocean Parade about 6.50am.
Coffs-Clarence Police District officers were told of the car park attack and found the man suffering significant stab wounds.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the surferon scene and he was taken to Coffs Harbour hospital for further treatment.
He had been in a serious but stable condition, according to NSW Ambulance.
However, a police statement has since confirmed the man died at the hospital.
It’s understood he was wearing a black swimsuit and is believed to have just left the surf.
Police set up a crime scene and have appealed for anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
Officers have not charged anyone as the probe continues.
Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club took to Facebook after the stabbing and said its bar and restaurant near the car park had been shut “due to unforeseen circumstances”.
