Man on firearms, drug and domestic violence charges after police raid Bowraville property

Police moving to arrest a man on alleged domestic violence offences copped more than they bargained on when they uncovered guns allegedly taken from homes at Coffs Harbour, Sapphire Beach and Taree. Here’s the latest.

A man has been charged with firearms-related offences following the alleged theft of guns from homes in Coffs Harbour, Sapphire Beach and Taree.

Police went to a Rodeo Dr, Bowraville, property at 9.30am on Tuesday to arrest a 26-year-old man for alleged domestic violence-related offences.

As the man was being arrested, police found a firearm inside the home and declared a crime scene.

After obtaining a crime scene warrant, Mid North Coast Police District officers searched the property, finding three firearms and ammunition.

Police will allege the guns had been stolen from three break and enter incidents during 2020 and 2021.

The man was taken to Kempsey Police Station.

In a further search of the property, officers allegedly located methylamphetamine, cannabis plants and leaf.

The man was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with 10 offences, including three counts of use supply etc stolen firearm or firearm part, possess unauthorised pistol, possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, not keep firearm safely-pistol, possess prohibited drug, and supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity.

The man was also hit with a further eight domestic-violence related offences.

He was refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Wednesday.
