Lawyers involved in the “complex” case surrounding a Coffs Coast financial adviser who is facing hundreds of charges in relation to fraud allegations have sought more time before proceeding.
Daniel Harris is currently facing in excess of 600 charges following investigations by police into accusations from his clients that their superannuation funds had been misappropriated.
Police alleged that detectives began investigating the fraud accusations in August 2018 after receiving reports.
In November that year, police raided a Bonville home and seized a computer, mobile phones and business papers before arresting the then 42-year-old and initially charging him with two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
Further charges were added as part of ongoing investigations.
Harris recently appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court, where an application was made to have the matter adjourned for a further nine weeks to allow for second case conference to take place between the defence and prosecution.
The defence told Magistrate Ian Rodgers that they understood the matter had been “around for a long time” but said progress was being made on what was a complex case.
They added a request will be made by the defence for further information that will allow them to “understand what the prosecution case is” in order to give the appropriate advice to Harris.
Magistrate Rodgers granted the application and Harris’ case will be back before Coffs Harbour Local Court on June 15.
