Jago the police doggo helps arrest wanted man at Coffs Harbour

NSW Police dogs have been busy using their unique skills in partnership with their human colleagues on the North Coast.

From assisting with arrests to sniffing out drugs, they’re well suited to the role.

In Coffs Harbour on Wednesday Jago helped arrest a suspect in relation to a break and enter.

The suspect initially broke into a house in West Kempsey and stole the occupant’s vehicle.

Later in the day the car was seen by Mid North Coast Police and a pursuit was initiated through the Kempsey CBD before being terminated in the Frederickton area.

The car came to the attention of police again when it failed to negotiate a roundabout in Coffs Harbour with the suspect colliding with the railing and fleeing on foot and attempting to hide.

That’s when Jago sprang into action, tracking and locating the suspect who was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police station.

He was charged with two counts of police pursuit/drive dangerously, two charges of unlicensed driving, aggravated break and enter, take and drive conveyance without consent, enter enclosed lands and stealing.

In the Nimbin area Hayley assisted with a search warrant where drugs (cannabis) were located.

Also located on the property were numerous firearms.

At around 8am on Wednesday April 21 Police attended an address in Nimbin.

They found an amount of cannabis along with a .177 calibre air pistol, two rifles and a tool bag containing two wooden gun stocks and scopes for rifles. Police also located a bag containing a small crossbow.

The offender was charged with several counts of possessing a prohibited drug, possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing ammunition, possessing a firearm part and a prohibited weapon.
