A 43-year-old mother who allegedly “encouraged” the manufacture of illicit drugs and dealt commercial quantities of ice in the Coffs Coast community is awaiting her fate in custody.

Karina Alferink could face a penalty of up to 20 years jail time for the alleged offence of supplying the ice. She is also facing charges of allegedly dealing cannabis as well as amphetamines in Billy’s Creek near Dorrigo, court documents state.

It was heard in Coffs Harbour District Court last week that she had been remanded at Clarence Correctional Centre since her arrest in August last year.

She is now set to face a sentence hearing at the court a year on.

Detectives last year conducted investigations into the cross-region drug supply and manufacture in the Coffs Coast, Hunter Valley and New England regions. Police alleged in a statement to the media that police officers searched a home in Murrurundi and two men were subsequently arrested and charged with drug supply and manufacture.

Alferink has been charged as an accessory before the fact, with court documents stating Alferink allegedly “encouraged and assisted” the two alleged offenders to take part in the manufacture of amphetamines at Murrurundi and other areas across NSW.

Police stated in court documents that during a four month period between April and August last year, she allegedly supplied a total of 293.5g of meth in Coffs Harbour.

Alferink was also found by police to have allegedly dealt a total of 85.75g of amphetamines, as well as 100g of cannabis in Billys Creek near Dorrigo.

The woman, who has recently lived in Fernmount and Armidale, was not required to appear in Coffs Harbour District Court last week where a sentence hearing date was fixed.

Alferink’s solicitor told Judge Jonathan Priestley that they expected the sentence hearing to take up to two hours.

The sentence hearing will take place at Coffs Harbour District Court on August 30. Alferink is expected to also confirm her guilty pleas in a formal arraignment on this same date.
