Arrest near Bellingen after police chase down Waterfall Way from Ebor

A 21-year-old man, allegedly on bail at the time, was arrested after the dramatic police chase which involved Polair, the use of road spikes and the dog unit.

With assistance from PolAir, the stolen vehicle was located in Thora and officers from the Coffs Harbour Highway Patrol Command started a second pursuit.

Police attempts to stop a suspected stolen Toyota HiLux ute west of Ebor led to a dramatic chase involving Polair and the dog unit.

Police say highway patrol officers tried to stop the ute as it travelled east along Waterfall Way near Wollomombi about 1.25pm on Thursday.

Officers pursued the ute but stopped near Dorrigo due to safety concerns.

With assistance from Polair, the vehicle was found a short time later in Thora and officers from the Coffs Harbour Highway Patrol Command started a second pursuit.

Afternoon shoppers in Bellingen pulled over as several cars made their way through town using lights and sirens to help with the arrest.

Police eventually deployed road spikes on Horseshoe Road at Gordonville before the car left the road and hit a fence on Waterfall Way.

The driver allegedly fled on foot and was arrested nearby with the assistance of Polair and the dog unit.

The 21-year-old man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police station where he was charged with two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously; take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; two counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period; drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; and breach of bail.

The Armidale man was refused bail and appeared at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Friday.
