Amanda Duggan in Coffs Harbour court for driving while unlicensed

A Coffs Harbour mum battling cancer has faced court after being caught driving without a licence three times in just over a fortnight.

A Coffs Harbour mum knew she was in strife when she was caught driving unlicensed twice within a week.

But then she was in trouble for being behind the wheel for a third time just 10 days later.

Amanda Lee Duggan pleaded guilty in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday to driving without a licence on three separate occasions.

The court heard Duggan had been battling cancer and undergoing treatment and was waiting to see if it had been successful.

Her lawyer told the court that Ms Duggan’s most recent surgery was just 10 weeks ago.

The court heard Duggan had lost her job and associated accommodation after her diagnosis and had been forced to live in a caravan park.

The 40-year-old was caught behind the wheel despite being suspended for previously driving without a supervisor on her L-plates.

Magistrate Ian Rodgers told the court she was detected on three separate occasions: January 7, 13 and 23.

On January 13 she posted on Facebook: “Just got done again 🤦 anyone wanna buy a cheap car??” and posted a photo of her court attendance notice.

For the first two offences she was fined $440 and disqualified from driving for three months but no conviction was recorded.

For the third offence she was disqualified from driving for four months and convicted and sentenced to a nine-month community correction order.

Monday was a busy day in court for Mr Rodgers, who had 99 matters listed.

In the afternoon he asked if anybody was willing to have their matter adjourned.

A number of people took him up on the offer.
