Trump's reach over the Pacific
REGARDING Donald
Trump scrapping US involvement in the Trans-Pacific Partnership,
it is understandable as it basically slashes trade tariffs Trump wants to extend.
To some extent, why not protect home land industry? However little does Trump (or Australia's One Nation Party) realise, even with new factories, the cost of goods made in America will still cost more than foreign imports due to worker entitlements not enjoyed by many Asian and Latin American countries.
As for the environment, well Trump and Pauline Hanson have not "joined the dots”. Both climate change sceptics (although neither are technically or scientifically qualified).
They don't understand science or the cost of related increased natural disasters and real estate sea level inundation affecting millions of people. Again, for Trump it's understandable, climate change corrective action is anti-big business.
Finally, his attempted control over the media is unprecedented among non-communist countries or during war time, although Trump has no control over his personal use of global "social media”.
There's not a week go by without him making a typo on Twitter.

Games are just the start of the end goal
WE WERE the very fortunate Advocate and Greater Bank competition winners to attend the W-League and A-League at CEX Coffs International Stadium on Friday night.
Newcastle won the A League game against Melbourne City 2-1, but more importantly, this game could be the catalyst for the Newcastle Jets finally becoming our team.
Nearly 8000 people attended the game and what a spectacle of high energy and world-class skills from both sides. With this win, the Jets are now a genuine finals contender.
Walking across the pitch after the game revealed that this is a stadium worthy of many future A-League and W-League games and hopefully more regular games.
The local support for the Jets is only going to increase with this result and to have it broadcast live on national television will do wonders for Coffs and the Jets.

Cats meeting
a grim fate
AS a cat owner I was alarmed to read in Saturday's Advocate that some cretins are capturing neighbourhood moggies in their yards and using them for bait in their crab pots.
This sadistic practice is very alarming. Keep an eye on your pets.
