M1 Motorway crash: Mercedes Benz smashes into barriers near Bonville, VB bottle found inside

An empty VB bottle was found inside a luxury car which caused peak hour madness on the M1 Motorway after smashing into the rope barriers. See the pictures from the scene.

A Mercedes Benz triggered widespread traffic delays after it crashed into wire rope barriers after veering off the M1 Pacific motorway, near Bonville, last night.

Police officers were called to the scene where an opened VB beer bottle was discovered in the interior of the car.

The incident took place about 5pm in rainy conditions and peak hour traffic.

The driver – 21 year old female from Tanglewood, Queensland, was taken to the hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing as well as medical attention.

The crash took place northbound on the busy motorway, about 2km north of the Archville Station Rd overpass.

The car was heavily damaged, with the front section of the car contorted by the heavy collision.

The female driver was scraped through the crash with minimal injuries. The incident saw one northbound closed with traffic heading into Coffs Harbour brought to a crawl, inching back towards Urunga for about an hour.

Police confirmed the 21-year-old was issued an infringement notice for negligent driving following the incident.
