Lyon St, Bellingen Explosion: Fire crews, ambulances respond, man injured

Paramedics rushed to a Coffs Coast property to treat a man with burns to his face, chest and arms after reports a gas bottle exploded in the kitchen.

A man has suffered burns to his face, chest and arms after what is believed to be a gas bottle explosion at a house on the Mid North Coast.

Crews from Urunga and Coffs Harbour Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the scene at 11.30am to reports of a kitchen fire.

Smoke was seen coming from the front of the house and firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the property at Lyon Street in Bellingen.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said the occupants had already evacuated the house by the time crews arrived.

A neighbour said he understood a gas bottle in a kitchen had exploded.

A man in his 70s, sat on a garbage bin as a firefighter treated his face and hands.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived about noon and treated the man for smoke inhalation as well as burns to the chest, face and arms.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital.

It is also understood another man in his 30s was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Bellinger River District Hospital.

NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers conducted traffic control along the busy residential street.
