Police body worn camera footage shown to the jury in an alleged kidnapping case depicts officers entering a backyard shed in a suburban Coffs Harbour street – and finding a man holding his head, sitting in an inflatable pool red with blood.
The footage was produced as evidence by the Crown following the alleged kidnapping of Daniel Riley, 38.
The offending is alleged to have occurred at an Azalea Ave, Coffs Harbour home on December 30, 2022.
The accused are Dean Hurst, 48, Rikki Sheen, 38, Steve Adams 48 and Jessica Gibson, 32.
They all face the same charge of kidnapping in company with intention to commit bodily harm, and have pleaded not guilty.
Extra charges against Hurst, Sheen and Adams include reckless wounding in company. Again, all have pleaded not guilty, while Adams and Sheen have also pleaded not guilty to possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit.
Additionally, Hurst has pleaded not guilty to using a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
In the footage shown to the court, Adams was heard to say “Old mate and I had a scuffle and he’s come off second best”.
The court also heard from police witness Detective Bennett Nolan that Hurst allegedly said “The boys got in a blue” around the time of his arrest.
The jury has been deliberating and will consider video evidence along with transcripts from mobile phones, DNA evidence from a forensic biologist, CCTV footage recovered from the property and key witness statements and evidence in court.
The trial, which began last month, has been complex with the jury often sent for breaks.
