A young Coffs Harbour man showed “reckless indifference” toward his sister when he hurled a metal tool at her, a court has heard.

Jesse Van De Boogaard faced Coffs Harbour Local Court after an incident at a Corindi Beach home on July 9.

Van De Boogaard’s sister arrived at the address and let his dog off a chain so it could run around, according to police facts.

This upset the 25-year-old labourer, who threw a metal wrench toward her.

The tool missed and landed in a garden.

Police state the victim began to cry and Van De Boogaard told her: “I’m going to kill you one day.”

Defence lawyer, Lachlan Jackson Porter told the court on Wednesday there’s “always been some tension” between the siblings.

He said the court may have “some concerns” about his client’s anger management, but Van De Boogaard was now channelling his energy into competitive boxing.

Police prosecutor Will Amos told the court he was perturbed that Van De Boogaard was “rationalising” his behaviour, as seen in a sentence assessment report.

Magistrate Julia Virgo said Van De Boogaard had shown “reckless indifference” toward the victim and his behaviour was “simply appalling”.

Van De Boogaard pleaded guilty to common assault and stalking/intimidating.

He was convicted, fined $1000 and placed on a 10-month intensive correction order.
