A man has been charged after police allegedly found almost $1 million worth of cocaine on the back seat of his car.

Several packages of white powder, believed to be cocaine, were allegedly found about 11am on Wednesday after Coffs/Clarence police stopped a white SUV on the Pacific Highway at Bonville.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old Gold Coast man, had undergone a roadside drug test that allegedly returned a positive result.

Weighing approximately 3.6kg in total, police allege the packages have a potential street value of approximately $900,000. They have been sent for further forensic examination.

Images supplied by NSW Police appear to indicate the packages may have been hidden inside boxes of protein powder.

Police also seized two mobile phones.

The man was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity).

The Gold Coast man was refused bail to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday August 12.
