Coffs Harbour first prepared a heritage strategy in 2003.
It has been revised regularly and the most recent update is currently on public exhibition.
It deals with European heritage within the Coffs Harbour LGA as well as Aboriginal cultural heritage from a much earlier period.
Heritage items include buildings, sites, relics, heritage landscapes, local streetscapes, cemeteries, archaeological sites, industrial heritage sites and movable items.
Many of them provide first-hand information about how Coffs Harbour developed, who played a part in this development, how they lived their lives and how they built their living environment.
The draft Coffs Harbour Heritage Strategy 2021 – 2024, identifies how Council will implement its heritage program during the 2021 to 2024 period.
At its Ordinary Meeting of May 13, Council endorsed the public exhibition of the draft strategy for a 28-day period and this is now underway.
The exhibition period closes on June 21.
The draft strategy and all related information can be viewed in the document library on Coffs Harbour City Council’s website.
Other documents currently on public exhibition include a planning proposal which could see a section of land along Coramba Road rezoned from E2 Environmental Conservation to R2 Low Density Residential. The exhibition period for this document closes on June 25.
