The resident of a home in Eungai is believed to be missing after a fire tore through the residence south of Macksville.
NSW Police and the occupant’s mother raised concerns about their whereabouts after the blaze on Thursday night.
But it is understood no one was inside the building on the Pacific Highway when it caught fire shortly before 7pm.
Eight Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service firetrucks were called in and firefighters worked for more than two hours to get the fire under control.
Footage showed the devastation as flames engulfed the home, with smoke billowing from windows and blackening the sky.
The cause of the fire was under investigation on Friday morning.
Fire and Rescue NSW has urged residents and homeowners to install working smoke alarms.
