Family grateful for community help to bring son home

THE heart-breaking ordeal to bring Adam Warner's body home from China will end with his funeral in Nerimbera this morning.

For 16 years, Adam, 40, lived and worked in China with his partner before suddenly taking his life on July 10, leaving his family with a daunting financial challenge of finding $18,000 to bring his body home.

Desperate to be reunited with their son, the Warner family launched a GoFundMe page that attracted tremendous support from the CQ community and around the world, to successfully raise the goal amount on Monday.

Speaking on behalf of his family, John Warner, Adam's father, expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who had helped towards bringing Adam home.

While the final cost was several thousand dollars higher than initially anticipated, Mr Warner said they were "not asking for any more money", and they were "more than grateful for what we received".

"We had no idea at all. We knew (Adam) had very minor depression but was nowhere near the state to take his own life," Mr Warner said.

"His partner in China had no idea and they were planning trips all around the world and were planning to spend the rest of their lives together, and the demons got him."

Mr Warner said his family was focused on creating a greater awareness of suicide prevention.

"Hug your loved ones and ask them if they're OK," he said.

He said Adam's funeral service would take place at 11am today at Memorial Gardens Chapel, Nerimbera and was open to anyone wishing to pay their respects.

Attendees were requested to wear bright clothing and in lieu of flowers, donations to Suicide Prevention Australia would be appreciated.
