A total of 23 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported on the Mid North Coast, including two in Coffs Harbour.

Fifteen of the new cases are from Kempsey and six are from Port Macquarie, bringing the total number of cases reported on the Mid North Coast to 130 since the beginning of the NSW outbreak.

Fifteen of the cases are linked to a known case or cluster and the source of the infection of eight cases is under investigation.

The North Coast Public Health Unit said it is currently investigating the latest cases and contact tracing is underway.

The new Coffs Harbour virus cases come after two others were reported in Friday’s figures.

Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh stated on Saturday that he understood both cases from Friday were in the Northern Beaches area, and there was potential for more cases to be diagnosed over the next days as their close contacts and household contacts are tested.

Authorities last week said a detection at the Woolgoolga sewage treatment plant on October 13 was of particular concern, with locals who had symptoms urged to get tested.

There are no new potential exposure venues listed in Coffs Harbour by NSW Health at this stage. NSW Health will contact people who are confirmed as close contacts generally by phone call or text message.

A drive-through testing clinic is available at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Mid North Coast’s vaccination rates continue to climb with almost 95 per cent of the region’s residents having received their first dose.

High Covid-19 testing rates have also been experienced across the region with 920 tests conducted on Saturday, 513 of which were at Kempsey.

“I’d like to thank our wonderful staff at our testing clinics for all their tireless efforts and the community for coming forward for testing and helping us to keep each other safe,” Chief Executive Mid North Coast Local Health District Stewart Dowrick said.

“Anyone with even the mildest of cold-like symptoms is urged to immediately come forward for testing and isolate until a negative result is received.”
