Covid positive mum, kids travel through Mid North Coast by train

A Covid positive mum and her children who travelled through the Mid North Coast on a train bound for Coffs Harbour have been ordered to isolate.

A woman and her children who had Covid-19 have been ordered to isolate after travelling to the Mid North Coast region overnight.

Mid North Coast Police District received reports a 22-year-old woman had failed to isolate after a positive test and was travelling by train from Strathfield to Coffs Harbour with her three children.

Officers stopped the train at Kempsey about 10.40pm and removed the woman and her children from the train, before they were taken by paramedics to a special health hotel at Port Macquarie, where they will quarantine.

Police said 17 passengers and six crew on board at the time were also taken to the quarantine hotel, where they remain under the care of NSW Health.

Other passengers who alighted the train at stations previously in the journey are being contacted by NSW Health.

Inquiries are being conducted into the incident, including potential breaches of the public health order.

Mid North Coast Local Health District is providing care and support to the family group and they are now isolating in special accommodation.

Mid North Coast Local Health District chief executive Stewart Dowrick said it was not a local case and there had been no local transmission within the community.

“A number of close contacts have been identified and are also in isolation,” Mr Dowrick said.

“Public health investigations are ongoing.

“We ask the community to please remain vigilant and continue to practise Covid-safe measures at all times.”
