It’s time to get those thinking caps on folks, because the region’s most anticipated – and controversial – buildings needs a name.

The Cultural and Civic Space project on Gordon St may only be a hole in the ground but Coffs Harbour City Council have begun the official naming process, opening up suggestions from the general public.

While anyone can hop online and make a suggestion, the naming process is being done in partnership with local marketing agency saso.creative.

“We’re very pleased to be working on what we consider the most important cultural project in years for Coffs Harbour,” creative director Sam Chapman said.

“It shows that Council acknowledge, respect and believe that talent and expertise is available locally and is willing to give small local businesses the big tick.”

Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight said it was time to come up with a name that was “truly unique and stands the test of time”.

“This is a place for community so we want the community involved in coming up with an appropriate name that reflects what the project is at its core,” she said,

All name suggestions will go into a pool that will be short-listed and considered by the project board with a final official name recommendation to go to Council.

Entries are open from Monday July 12 to Friday July 30. To make a suggestion visit Council’s Have Your Say page or drop an idea into a suggestion box at any library, the Regional Gallery and Regional Museum.
