What’s on: Ten events not to miss on the Coffs Coast this week

Check out some vintage motorbikes, or even meet a bat – there’s plenty of great events taking place on the Coffs Coast over the next week. See the list of must-attend events here.

Watch live theatre, check out some vintage motorbikes, or even meet a bat – there’s plenty of great events taking place on the Coffs Coast over the next week.

Here’s your weekly go-to guide.

1. Restore and Ride Rally

What: Glenreagh Rural Fire Brigade will be hosting the Coffs Harbour and District Motorcycle Restorers’ 37th Restore and Ride Rally this weekend. Take a look at some beautiful machinery, and grab a sausage sandwich, coffee, soft drink or icy pole.

Visitors can also take the opportunity to check out the upgrades of the station, thanks to the hard work dedicated volunteers and public donations.

Where: Glenreagh Fire Station.

When: Sunday, May 23 from 11.30am.

2. Coramba Bale Out

What: This month the Coramba Village Market is collaborating with Coffs Harbour City Council to bring a fantastic day of community fun as part of the Coramba Bale Out event.

Bring a blanket and enjoy lunch on the lawn while browsing the usual Coramba Village Market stall holders. There’ll be live music from local acts, craft activities for the whole family, a hay bale play zone and plenty more.

Where: St Therese’s Church grounds on Gale St, Coramba.

When: Sunday, May 23 from noon.

3. Meet a Bat – Family Fun Day

What: Have you ever wondered about the bats hanging in their thousands in the trees at Woolgoolga, Coffs Creek, Toormina or Bellingen? Or the bats that you hear in the trees at night or flying above your head?

At this Meet a Bat event you can find out all about these fascinating Australian native animals, find out why they're important, what the real risks of having them around are (or aren’t), and how to live alongside them. This event is a collaboration between Walkabout Wildlife Park, Sydney Bats, WIRES, Coffs Harbour City Council, NSW NPWS and the NSW Government.

Where: North Coast Regional Botanic Garden. Free event.

When: Saturday, May 22 from 10am-1pm.

4. Louey Howell & Funkatu at Harbourside Markets

What: Browse the weekly Harbourside Markets while enjoying live tunes from Louey Howell & Funkatu. An eclectic fusion of funk, reggae, soul, ska and hip-hop, this high energy band performs original songs about life, love, community and good times.

On site will be all your favourite food trucks, as well as art, jewellery, clothing, beauty and lifestyle, plants, vintage and collectable stalls.

Where: Jetty foreshores.

When: Sunday, May 23 from 8am-2pm.

5. Beach Clean

What: The Coffs Harbour Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Team are gearing up for their May clean-up this weekend. Everyone is welcome to join the team in their fight to save our oceans and their inhabitants at this family-friendly Park Beach clean-up.

Wear closed-in shoes, be sun smart and don’t forget to bring your own gloves as these are compulsory during COVID-19.

Where: Park Beach Reserve.

When: Sunday, May 23 from 9am-noon.

6. Cinematinee – The Father

What: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins plays the role of a mischievous and highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman). Yet such help has become essential following Anne’s decision to move to Paris with her partner.

As Anne’s father tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.

Where: Jetty Memorial Theatre. Tickets available here.

When: Thursday, May 27. Two screenings at 2pm and 6pm.

7. National Road Safety Week Coffs Harbour

What: Did you know that the Coffs Harbour electorate had 17 fatalities and 317 people seriously injured from 2015-2019 on our roads? 70% were local people Speeding was a factor in 53% of fatalities and 35% of serious injuries.

The community is invited to the Botanic Garden to reflect upon lives changed or lost on our roads. While there, write the name of someone special on a ribbon or sunflower to plant in among the swathe of yellow flowers or wear a free yellow lapel ribbon. The ribbons and sunflowers have been made by the Coffs Harbour Men’s Shed.

Where: North Coast Regional Botanic Garden.

When: Runs daily until Sunday, May 23 from 9am-5pm.

8. CHMCC’s ‘Into The Woods’

What: James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s fantastic musical weaves together fairy-tale figures such as Cinderella, Jack (of the beanstalk), Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, Rapunzel and the witch, and more than one handsome Prince, but not as you’ve seen them before.

What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a cautionary tale about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

Where: Jetty Memorial Theatre.

9. QuizXpress

What: If you love your trivia and love your game shows, then you’ll love QuizXpress. No more paper, no more pens, this game show is played with wireless buzzers and there is a countdown timer so you only have a set period of time to lock in your answers.

Throughout the night you will put your trivia knowledge to the test as you answer questions from a variety of different categories such as history, sports, geography, music, movies, literature, food, business and more. When: Monday, May 24 from 7pm-9pm. Held weekly.

10. Open Mic Night

What: Join local band Pleasing George and Open Mic MC George Wilson for a fun Friday evening. Bring your instrument, or just yourself, to perform a few tunes in a friendly, supportive setting.

Full dining and bar facilities available, so come along, chill out and enjoy the night. Bookings recommended.

Where: RED-C at the jetty foreshores.

When: Friday, May 28 from 7pm-10pm.
