From concerts and films screenings, to spectacular fire twirling displays – there’s plenty of things to look forward to on the Coffs Coast this week.
Here’s your go to guide for must-see events for the week of June 5-11.
1. Nana Glen Bale Out!
What: The Nana Glen Bale Out! Winter Welcome Warmer is a free event, inviting community members to celebrate together with pony rides, a climbing tower, art activities, monster machinery display, live music and lots of food.
After sunset, the majestic lantern parade will be accompanied by community drummers to welcome the lighting of the RFS bonfire, followed by a spectacular fire twirling and glow hoop performance. Headline musical act Creedence and Friends will be playing much-loved songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival until close.
Where: Nana Glen Equestrian Centre.
When: Saturday, June 5 from 3.30pm-7.30pm.
2. Sunday Session featuring the McKenzie Trio
What: The McKenzies perform songs from the ‘50s to today, backed with their high energy interaction and stage presence (sometimes with a little McKenzie twist).
They pride themselves on big vocal harmonies like one of their influences The Eagles, and love a driving rock band to carry the crowd like Cold Chisel.

3. One Ocean Film Tour 2021
What: The One Ocean Tour 2 presented by Blancpain is a world-class series of ocean-loving films focused on adventure, the aquatic environment and inspirational stories. This year’s tour features seven short films exploring ocean conservation, surfing, diving, and much more.
Now in its second year, One Ocean has the vision to increase awareness about ocean protection and conservation by sharing films made by people who have dedicated their lives to the ocean and all its glory.

4. Cinematinee – Martin Eden
What: Bold and dazzling, acclaimed writer/director Pietro Marcello’s multi award-winning drama Martin Eden provocatively transposes Jack London’s 1909 novel about a self-taught and outspoken writer out of the American West and into a pivotal moment in Italy’s pre-war history.
Sailor Martin Eden is inspired to remake himself as a novelist, following a chance encounter with the wealthy Elena. She immediately becomes the object of his affections, and the symbol of the status Martin aspires to achieve. Pursuing his new-found obsessions, Martin abandons his friends and working-class roots without hesitation, but eventually undergoes a political awakening that triggers yet another change.

5. A Family Affair – Music for the young and young at heart
What: Join the Coffs Harbour City Orchestra for an afternoon of music from your favourite movies and enchanting tunes. Get to know the instruments of the orchestra in this interactive concert with music from Pirates to Dragons, Fairies and Dinosaurs.
Audience members are invited to embrace their inner movie star and dress as their favourite movie character for the concert. There will be prizes on offer for best and most creatively dressed thanks to BCC Cinemas Coffs Harbour and the Big Banana Fun Park.

6. Sandwich-bag Dad exhibition – final week
What: This dad’s morning ritual of drawing on his three daughters’ lunch-bags has been the highlight of the school day for teachers and students at his local school for eight years (and counting).
Recently, via Instagram, this quirky tradition has also been found to be entertaining thousands of families across the world and now form the foundation of this fun, pun-filled exhibition from Dave Blumenthal, aka Sandwich-bag Dad. The exhibition is now in its final week.

7. What Makes Me Happy exhibition
What: In Woolgoolga Gallery’s new exhibition, members are asked the age old problem: “What makes me happy?”
The past year has forced many people to reflect on the happiness question and many have changed their opinions. Do they simply have a cuppa, or maybe a good red or white, is it a chat with a friend or a cuddle with a love one, is it children and their laughter? See the response from the local artists in the new exhibition.

When: Daily from 10am-4pm. Runs until June 29.
8. Coffs Coast Growers Market
What: This local market has been supplying the Coffs Coast with fresh and local produce for more than a decade. With stalls selling local and farm fresh products such as jams, honey, cakes, bread, coffee, eggs, soaps, flowers, fruit and vegetables, herbs and more, the Coffs Coast Growers Market has something for everyone.
Where: City Square.
When: Thursday, June 10 from 8am-2pm. Held weekly.
9. A decade of Reef Life Survey in the Solitary Islands
What: Presented by RLS East Coast co-ordinator John Turnbull, the community are being invited to hear all about the marine life of the Solitary Islands, find out how local reef populations are changing and learn about the conservation challenges they face.
The free event will feature a short presentation, followed by a Q&A.
Where: Coffs Harbour Community Village.
When: Friday, June 11 from 7pm-8pm.
10. Bellingen Growers Market
What: This little Bellingen market has a big impact and great community vibe, with local growers (focusing on organic), makers and bakers along with delicious food and live music.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to support local growers and creators.
Where: Bellingen Showground.
When: Saturday, June 5 from 7.30am-12pm.
