A feverish eight-year-old boy with Covid and a calf swept away by floodwater were among the call-outs for emergency services workers on the Coffs Coast.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews helped paramedics reach the boy who was isolated by floodwaters at Bucca, north of Coffs Harbour.

Just after 3pm on Wednesday, a FRNSW rescue team launched a medical mission with State Emergency Service experts and ambulance paramedics.

They guided a paramedic through floodwaters to reach the sick child who was isolated with his parents on the opposite side of a flooded causeway in McClennans Road.

After being assessed, the decision was made to leave him in the care of his parents rather than risk a journey across fast-flowing floodwaters.

Moments earlier, another section of the ‘Alpha’ team of FRNSW in-water experts were dealing with a cow rescue on the Bellinger River at Raleigh.

Teaming with SES volunteers, the calf was spotted being swept away in floodwaters just after 1.30pm.

The exhausted animal was found washed up, lying on a riverbank, unable to move.

The rescue team wrapped the distressed calf in towels and a rope was rigged to pull it from immediate danger.
