COFFS Coast residents and solar businesses will rally against the Federal Government's plan to axe the Renewable Energy Target on Friday.

Coinciding with similar rallies in cities nationwide, the rally will be held outside Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker's office in Little St.

Organisers are urging people to reinforce the message that the policy introduced by the Howard Government in 2001 should not be axed as it enjoys widespread support of around 80% of Australians.

Organiser Marnie Cotton said with a decision on the Renewable Energy Target imminent, it was critical the community make its voice heard.

"This is a polite and respectful gathering which aims to bring our member's attention to his responsibility to support local businesses which are assisted by the RET and the importance of the RET to addressing climate change," she said.

Organisers National Rally for Renewables are highlighting their belief scrapping the target will result in thousands of lost jobs and make it harder for consumers to choose solar with installation to rise 30-50%.

The rally will start at noon this Friday.
