A truck fire that engulfed up to three new cars on its trailer and smoked out the rest has caused significant traffic delays on the Pacific Highway near Kempsey.
Emergency services were called to West End Rd South Kempsey near the off-ramp to Macleay Valley Way about 11.50am on Wednesday after reports of a truck fire.
“There was a truck carrying cars with the B-trailer on fire,” An RFS spokesman said.
Fire and Rescue attended and assisted to detach the cabin.
He said a tanker from the Kempsey Rural Fire Service brigade along with two trucks from Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze that had engulfed up to three cars by 12.30pm.
RFS spokesman confirmed three of the seven cars on board had been damaged by fire while the remaining were damaged by smoke.
“The off-ramp was blocked for about 40 minutes,” he said, “Traffic is still advised to go around the area while the truck is cleared.”
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Diversions remain in place for motorists travelling north it is advised to use Macleay Valley Way off-ramp at Frederickton.
