Brelsford Park to get $5 million facelift with state funding

It’s in a prime location and now getting the attention it deserves.

Brelsford Park, Coffs Harbour is in line for a major overhaul with a $5 million cash injection from the state government.

Brelsford Park is set to be transformed after a $5 million cash injection.

The funding is part of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Program, a joint state and federal government initiative enacted in response to the devastating bushfires of 2019/20.

The master plan aims to connect the parkland to the city centre with tree-lined pathways for both pedestrians and cyclists and the project also involves the creation of a small stage, an amphitheatre, a village green, a paved area, and power outlets.

It also includes picnic facilities, public amenities and a kiosk.

Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh said the city was fortunate to have a special place like Brelsford Park at its heart and Coffs Harbour City Council’s plans will “reinvigorate” it for the enjoyment of the entire community.

“New life is about to be breathed into this important precinct next to Coffs Harbour’s CBD thanks to this substantial funding boost from the NSW and Federal governments,” Mr Singh said.

At the moment the park is home to the city’s first ever skate park and a redeveloped childrens play area in its southwestern corner. Aside from that the rest of the park is primarily open space.

Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight said the “important green space” had been neglected over the years.

“Brelsford Park has the potential to become one of our city’s most popular attractions,” She said. “It is a much-loved feature of our city and the Skate Park and Inclusive Playground have become incredibly popular in recent years.

“This funding and Council’s Masterplan lays a foundation for the area to be transformed into a City Park for the whole community, visitors and wider region – and one that will also enhance community wellbeing, culture and leisure opportunities.”
