Authorities raced to the Mid North Coast beach on Sunday afternoon in a desperate attempt to save a man in trouble.

Authorities raced to a Hat Head beach on Sunday afternoon in a desperate attempt to save a man in trouble.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to Hat Head at 4.05pm on Sunday but by 4.40 it had been called off.

The Advocate understands that a man in his 60s got into trouble at the beach.

Hat Heat is a remote beach located between Crescent Head and South West rocks in the Kempsey region.

It is surrounded by the Hat Head National Park.

NSW Police confirmed the death saying that just after 4pm on Sunday emergency services were called to a beach at a campground, off Hungry Road at Hat Head after reports a man had been pulled from the water unresponsive.

“Officers from Mid North Coast Police District attended along with Ambulance paramedics,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Despite CPR being performed, the man died at the scene.”

To the north of Coffs Harbour there are also reports of a drowning north of Minnie Water near the Illaroo campground on Sunday afternoon.
