Armed men turned away at door in failed Toormina home invasion

One man was said to be carrying a machete, another a knife - in a harrowing ordeal for people inside a Toormina home. How the night unfolded.

Three men - two of them armed with weapons - tried to gain entry to a Toormina home late on Friday night.

Police said one man was carrying a machete, and another a knife during the failed home invasion.

The trio are described as being distinctive - one man is said to be just 5-foot tall, while his associates were over 6 feet.

While the front door of the Aquamarine Drive home was damaged, the intruders could not gain access.

Two men and a woman, aged 54, 29 and 33 respectively - were home at the time but were uninjured.

Two vehicles parked in the driveway were also damaged, after tyres were slashed, and one vehicle had its windscreen smashed.

Emergency services were called to the address at about 10pm following reports of a home invasion.

Police said the offenders left the scene in a vehicle, described as an older model 4WD.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic officers.

As inquiries continue, detectives would like to speak to three men who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

One is described as being aged in his late 20s, about 6-foot tall, of athletic build, wearing a black T-shirt, baseball cap and surgical mask.

The second is described as being of caucasian appearance with olive skin, aged his late 50s, about 5-foot tall, and wearing a blue chequered flannelette shirt.

The third is described as being aged in his 30s, over 6-foot 2 inches tall, with curly blond hair wearing a brown baseball cap.
