Moonee Beach will have its own Aldi supermarket up and running by Christmas, if Covid-19 allows.
The German supermarket chain has confirmed construction has started to bring the store to life at Moonee Marketplace.
The project is estimated to cost about $2.5 million.
“We look forward to opening our doors to the Moonee Beach community and bringing our good different shopping experience to locals,” an Aldi spokesman said.
“We anticipate that the store will open before Christmas, dependent on Covid-19 and border restrictions.”
Plans had been proposed by the shopping centre’s newest owners, Perth investment company Primewest, to bring an Aldi store into the mix early this year.
Works involve the reconfiguration of the shopping centre by consolidating existing tenancies in order to make way for the store.
The former Best & Less store, a vacant store and the centre management office is being merged.
Best & Less has since moved to another space in the shopping centre.
Meanwhile jobs are also being advertised for retail members for the new store, which would be the first Aldi on the Northern Beaches.
The chain has two existing Coffs Coast stores at Park Beach Plaza and Toormina.
