HE’S the high-flying MP famous for his luxury Rolls-Royce, private jet and Queensland resort, but Clive Palmer yesterday opted for a more economic option and caught a cab after stopping off for lunch in the Sydney CBD.
The battling billionaire, whose Queensland Nickel refinery is in administration, hailed the taxi after dining at a Sushi Train restaurant.
The cheap ride is a far cry from the private jet the Palmer United Party leader, who once controlled the balance of power in the Senate, used to travel around the country and the limousines used for official parliamentary business.
Despite enjoying Japanese cuisine for lunch, it was Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong who Mr Palmer turned to for inspiration yesterday while calling on the government to boost the number of women in parliament: “Chairman Mao once said that ‘women hold up half the sky’. Women received the vote in 1902 but prejudice still remains.”
He also wrote on social media: “The Australian government needs to support Australian Industries and ensure that all of its policies are for Australia first.”
It comes after Mr Palmer used a recent parliamentary question time to count money on the backbench, while redundant workers at his refinery await their entitlements.
