Prue Car chosen as NSW Labor deputy leader after backing Chris Minns

Second-term Labor MP Prue Car has been elected the party’s Deputy Leader.
Ms Car’s appointment as deputy to Chris Minns comes after Labor’s dominant Right faction agreed to give up its hold on the leadership position in the Upper House.
It’s understood Right faction member Adam Searle agreed to resign as Labor’s leader in the Legislative Council to green-light Ms Car’s appointment as Deputy Leader.
Labor rules mean leadership positions split among the Left and Right factions.
Ms Car, Londonderry MP, is the party’s Education spokeswoman.
She publicly backed Mr Minns in the short-lived leadership tussle against Michael Daley, before Mr Daley pulled out of the race.
Ms Car’s promotion to the Deputy Leader role comes despite Left faction member Jo Haylen long being touted for the position.
With the Right faction taking both Leader and Deputy positions with Mr Minns and Mr Carr, the Left faction has claimed both leadership roles in the Upper House.
Former Deputy Leader in the Legislative Council Penny Sharpe was expected to be promoted to leader, while Roads Spokesman John Graham will be promoted to Deputy.
Mr Graham publicly announced his support for Mr Minns against Mr Daley.
